On your initial visit to Trinity House we will decide exactly what the problem is with your teeth and your bite.
The problem may be that of crowded teeth, or the position of either top or bottom jaw, or a combination of both.
At this appointment we will take some X-rays, photographs and study models.
The first appointment is followed by a visit to see our hygienist, who will spend time showing you how to clean your teeth correctly. Correct procedure is essential for those who have to wear orthodontic appliances, as braces can increase your chances of tooth decay by up to 80 per cent. We will make a one off charge of £15 for your visit to the hygienist – this is quite a valuable appointment, and well worth the money.
At your next appointment with the orthodontist, he will decide on your treatment plan and which course of treatment is best for you. We will recommend the best treatment after examining the X-rays, photographs and study models taken on your first visit. We will also discuss with you any concerns you have about your teeth, and how you would like them improved.
From here we will provide you with a series of appointments to make your brace, depending on the type of brace you need. These are as follows, although this might vary slightly from treatment to treatment):
• SEPS
• Bands and impressions
• SEPS
• The fitting of the first appliance
When the fixed brace is fitted, a longer appointment is required. As with all braces, teeth will be tender to chew on, so you will need a fairly soft diet. The brace might rub your cheeks and the occasional ulcer is not unusual – it may be advisable to purchase some wax from reception which will help. Also, this is where the advice from the hygienist applies as it is extremely important to clean your teeth well and avoid sugary snacks.
